My Inspiration
My Inspiration, My Muse and…
My passion to create is deeply rooted in my lifelong appreciation for nature and soul-discovery. Through quiet contemplation, I come away with impressions of a texture or shape observed within my natural surroundings. While growing up in southern Alberta, I began to deeply appreciate the boundless intricacies in nature waiting to be explored. It is in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta and Kootenay regions of British Columbia where I would spend a lot of my time immersed in my natural surroundings. In the last ten years, I had the unique opportunity to work as an arborist and gained a new respect and understanding of trees. The experience deeply affected me and much of my current work is inspired by a combination of these experiences.
Why metal?
I have always been fascinated by small details, beauty and working with my hands and various tools. The process of transforming raw materials into something truly unique is intrinsically gratifying. Working with metal fascinates me due to its eternalness and ability to hold memory while deliberate and not so deliberate markings from different tools reveal its history. Metal is tactile, and to work with it demands a certain level of physical interaction. Although jewellery making wasn’t an obvious career choice in the beginning, it is undeniable now and I am grateful to be afforded the opportunity to do what I love to do.
Creative Business Values
My intention is to make good quality handmade items that last a life time and are meaningful to the wearer. I am conscious of the environmental impact the jewellery industry has and do my best to minimize my footprint. Using only materials from reputable sources, I recycle any small pieces that cannot be used in my work, use alternative, safe, natural methods during the jewellery making and cleaning process. If you have any questions about my process or materials please feel free to contact me directly.
