About Tara…

Although Tara Battram has always been interested in creativity, her passion for working with metal began while studying at the Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary, Alberta.  It is here, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Jewellery and Metals (2007).  She spends many hours immersed in nature where she continues to draw much of her inspiration.  Tara’s work has been exhibited in Western Canada as well, in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and is a recent member of the New Brunswick Craft Council.  In the summer of 2014 she was an artist in residence as part of the summer program through the Fredericton Arts Alliance.  When not in nature or working part-time at a local greenhouse, she can be found designing and creating in her cozy studio located just outside the city limits of beautiful Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Ms. Battram’s present work involves the process of reducing a concept into its most simple and rudiment form.  Using a thicker gauge metal is also a conscious consideration that speaks of weight, protection and substance.  “I like the dichotomy between something small and intricate alongside the physical presence of metal, representing to me both a stillness and strength”.  The series titled, “Stonewall” is about being aware of obstacles whether physical, mental or emotional in our experience while figuring out a way through and beyond the struggle we are currently faced with.  Tara states, “Obstacles come in many forms and intensities but with awareness and resolve, they can be acknowledged, re-framed, and worked through rather than pushed away.  The key is to take notice of those challenges and continue to work through them even when there is pain and struggle.”  Bringing forth impressions based on her own life experiences, Tara aspires to share her personal story in each of the pieces she creates.
